1. Achieving the Impossible

It’s impossible to please all of the people, all of the time but many web developers find themselves doing just that. Challenges include vague client goals and objectives, expectations that exceed budget, last minute changes that impact meeting deadlines. Minutes turn into hours and stress mounts. Ultimately the developer finds themselves spinning on a hamster’s wheel.

𝐎𝐧 𝐭𝐑𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐒𝐠𝐑𝐭 π¬π’ππžβ€¦ Many people are willing to rely on a developers expertise and years of experience with the knowledge they are trying their best to please their clients (I know…wishful thinking).

2. Intermittent Dry Spells From Feast to Famine

Things are buzzing along and new clients are pouring in. Life is good…keeping busy, paying bills, eking out enough extra cash to meet inflation and the rising cost of living.

Suddenly in the time it takes to say, β€œWhere’s the next customer?” you are confronted with a dry spell. The phone doesn’t ring, spam populates your inbox and things have taken a dark turn. β€œHas your business become a hobby?”

On the bright side…Take comfort that dry spells aren’t forever and the sun will rise again. The phone rings and on the other end is a brand new client.

3. Enter the Unprepared Client

Your sleeves are rolled up and you’re ready to develop your client’s new website but, where is the content? You pick up the phone to remind your client but alas a silent pause is followed by a promise to send it sooner than later. Here’s hoping.

𝐎𝐧 𝐭𝐑𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐒𝐠𝐑𝐭 π¬π’ππžβ€¦ in 1996 Bill Gates wrote an essay entitled β€œContent is King” in which he emphasized the significance of high quality content to succeed in business. This standard holds true today. So on that note, lets run with it!

When crafted correctly, content can help businesses reach their target audience. It should be informative, entertaining with visual elements to hold the reader’s attention.

Incorporate keyword phrases that describe your offerings to allow search engines to find you.

4. Clients Drive Me Crazy

If you’re not a great communicator, get rubbed the wrong way easily, lack flexibility to bend over backwards or are low on patience and diplomacy, then web development may not be right for you. There will always be demanding clients with unrealistic expectations.

𝐎𝐧 𝐭𝐑𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐒𝐠𝐑𝐭 π¬π’ππžβ€¦ Along with your passion and expertise as a web developer, If you’ve got β€œChutzpah” to overcome challenges, are able to communicate clearly and address situations calmly and objectively, you have a good chance of building great client relations. Practise makes perfect.
