Here are potential reasons why you are experiencing poor website traffic:

  1. Extended Loading Time: If your website takes up to four seconds or more to load you may be losing traffic.  Photos and design elements may not be fully optimized. Perhaps the animation that was once considered ‘dynamic’ is now cumbersome. Engage a qualified web developer to address these issues.
  2. Does Not Render Well on Mobile Devices:  A responsive website has code that scales images up and down so that it displays properly on different size screens. Be sure that your images are sized and optimized properly.  If these steps are taken, the layout of your website will adjust to the size of the mobile screen and the design concept will remain in tact.
  3. Poor Navigation System: Is your website’s navigation system no longer intuitive due to changes in your business? Before, customers found what they were looking for but now there are too many menu options or not enough! Customers wander aimlessly from page to page and suddenly disappear in the time it takes to say “Wait! There’s more!”
  4. Poor or Lack of Website Content: It’s a known fact that when it comes to websites, “content is king”. Frankly the more content you publish that adds value, the more attention your website will receive.  Avoid poorly constructed sentences. Consider the flow of your content.  Thoughts should be projected in the right sequence and make sense to the reader. Ensure that you use proper grammar and correct spelling.
  5. Self Promotion: Promoting your products and services is an important part of any business but you need to include informative descriptions or articles that add value.  Major search engines respond to user inquiries by linking them to websites to find answers. They pay more attention to informative websites than those whose primary focus is promotion.
  6. Lack of internal Links:  Use internal links within your website to connect visitors to learning more about a particular product or service. This will help your internet ranking and hopefully increase website traffic.
  7. Lack of Transparency:  To gain credibility and trust, the first step is to identify where you business is located, the areas you serve and any information you wish to share about your business and the customer service you offer.
  8. No About Page:  Be sure to include an About page on your website.  Your audience wants to know about you and your business, how it got started, how long it has been in operation, what makes your business unique, etc. To add a personal touch, you may wish to include a personal greeting along with a headshot of you and your team.
