As a website developer, I’ve struggled with the notion of including a price list on my website. Many of us have been faced with this decision at one time or another. Clearly there are pros and cons to consider, some of which are: Will knowing the price deter customers who may have not fully considered the quality of your services and customer feedback? Will local competitors gain insights about what you are charging and seek ways to undercut you? These are only two examples but I have no doubt there are more!
Do you find yourself in a tense situation when you ask customers “What is your budget?” From a service provider’s point of view, it seems like a fair question. However customers worry that by disclosing this information, their entire budget will be used up and they’ll lose out on a better deal. If you include a Price list on your website then you know that the customer has done their research and has made an informed decision without sales pressure.
It’s a well-known fact that consumers have become online researchers. They want to know about the quality of a brand or service and what customers are saying. By withholding the cost of a service, customers may become frustrated by the lack of transparency and may walk away rather than reaching out to you.
For the sake of transparency, I recently decided to include a price list on my website. It will hopefully lead to building trust amongst my clients and for those interested in engaging me.
The opinions and views expressed in this article are my own. At the end of the day, including a price list is a personal choice amongst service providers. The decision is made based on what works best for the way they run their business. There are no right or wrong answers. I welcome your feedback and thoughts. Please feel free to leave a comment.
